Compounding pharmacies specialize in custom medications prepared by specially trained staff for individual patients. These medications are not commercially available but are prescribed by a physician or other legally authorized prescriber to meet an individuals unique medication needs. Compounded medications are necessary when different strengths or delivery forms must be used, when other medications are unavailable or when specific combinations are needed.
Melissa tells that she really loves her job. She stated that it gives her great satisfaction knowing that what she does each day helps people and makes a big difference in their lives. She can recite many success stories, but her favorites center around the formulas she compounds that help women maintain their pregnancies. She reflected "As a compounder, it makes you feel good about yourself when you are able to help someone bring something so beautiful as a new life into the world".
